The Positive Impact of Technology in Our Everyday Lives

How would your life be different without the basic technology we use every day? I know a lot of things would be different for me. For example, I would not be able to communicate with family who are spread across the country as easily as I do or pay my bills with one click of a button or even work my job that I do from home. A lot would be different. So, let’s look at the positive impact technology has had on our everyday lives, what technology is behind it, and a glance into what the future has in store.

Improved Communication

Since the introduction of smartphones in the early 2000s, our communication has greatly improved. From texting and video calling to social media and online games, we can connect with people across the world, both people we know and complete strangers. The past year has shown us how important having this technology is; and almost everyone has now partaken in a virtual date, meeting, movie night, or family dinner and none of that would be possible without the use of cloud-based video conferencing software.  For example, I use Zoom, Flock, and WhatsApp almost daily to have video calls and messages with work and family. What technology do we have to thank for the ability to video call and message? Cloud computing and cloud-based software like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure! These platforms enable us to have this type of communication.

If you want to get involved with any of the companies that use these platforms, it is in your best interest to get an AWS certification (there are so many options available) or Microsoft Azure certification to start your career in cloud computing.

Virtual Social and Work Lives

It is not only because of the pandemic that we have virtual social lives and work lives; this started way before that! Some people have even made their online presence their career; look at all the successful YouTubers, Twitch streamers, Instagram influencers, and TikTok stars. These careers are becoming so popular that the art of storytelling is a desirable skill that is taught in digital storytelling training classes. More people than ever before have started work from home or getting remote work, and many people have struggled with the change. I highly recommend looking at some online business communication courses to help with communicating as well as some mindfulness training to ease any stress or anxiety.

For many, their social life is virtual like online gaming guilds or groups that have known each other for years but have never met – some of these gaming guilds have been together for 10+ years! Or so many other kinds of interest groups that bring people together virtually. For example, if you take a look at all the niche groups on Facebook and other social media communities like Discord and Reddit, you will find thousands of people that communicate every day but have never met.

Increased Information Access

Any answer to anything is available online, and we don’t even need to use our fingers to type it in. Introducing virtual assistants and home speakers like google assistant or Amazon Alexa, many were developed using programming languages like C++, Python and Java and some can even control lights and locks. A very popular thing people have started to do is customize and develop their own Alexa using Python. This is a great way to gain experience with Python and help earn your way towards Python certification. If you are starting out in Python, there are many beginner projects you can try to increase your understanding of the capabilities of the language.

Another increase in information is online schooling, both for short and succinct continuing education courses and full-on career programs. People have moved towards online schooling because it is a cost-effective and flexible option.

The Future

What does the future have in store? I know I am very interested to see where artificial intelligence, blockchain, VR and robotics are going and how they will be incorporated into our everyday lives. So the answer to what is in store is up to people like you. People that can solve one of the world’s big problems with technology will lead the way to a brighter future. Be one of them and sign up for robotics training or any other technology course today.
